LIBRARY AIDE JOB DESCRIPTION

The Library Aide will be responsible for daily tasks in the Library, including, but not limited to, working at the Circulation Desk and assisting the public, under the supervision of the Director.

PART TIME, 12-15 HOURS PER WEEK, NO BENEFITS, $10.72 PER HOUR

  • Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3:00 to 7:00 PM
    Saturdays, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM
    Fill in when needed

DUTIES

  • Work Circulation Desk: check out/in materials, issue patron library cards, file applications and other duties as necessary
  • Assist patrons in locating materials
  • Assist patrons in use of reference sources, card catalogue, printers, copier and automated information system
  • Request/procure materials for remote holds and Access PA
  • Reshelve materials/shelf read
  • Perform clerical activities: answer phones, file, word processing and printing/copying
  • Fax for public
  • Assist Staff as necessary
  • Other duties as necessary as assigned by Director

SKILLS/JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED; previous library experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly in oral/written communications with patrons, co-workers and supervisors
  • Ability to follow library policies and procedures
  • Proficiency in use of word processing
  • Proficiency in searching the Internet, Web and Electronic Databases
  • Ability to follow library policies and procedures
  • Must successfully complete and provide Background Checks (State Police; State Child Abuse; and FBI fingerprint clearances) prior to employment; must be current within the last 3 years

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to climb, use hands to finger, grasp, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, reach with hands and arms, stand, and walk
  • Must be able to sit for 1-2 hours, and stand and/or walk for 4-8 hours per workday.
    Must be able to bend/stoop, squat, kneel, lift, push/pull and reach above shoulder level for a large percentage of the workday for material manipulation
  • Hand-eye coordination necessary to operate computers and various office equipment
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to repetitively perform fine motor manipulations including typing and writing.
